The high water table of the Fraser River delta lands of Richmond offered quite a challenge on this project. To start, all existing lawn and planting area on the waterlogged site had to be stripped and the drainage repaired. The liily pond our clients wanted as the focal point had to be designed to be above grade, but not too obtrusive. Portions of the existing exposed aggregate walkway and patio were removed, replaced with flagstone and planting pockets. The pond was faced with cut limestone and a clear cedar heavy post and beam arbour and entry pergola were designed and installed for shading and scale. Extensive planting in curving border beds for screening from the neighbours and year-round interest added the finishing touch.
