This property featured a rather awkward site layout, with a garage and a large below-grade entrance taking up much of the rear yard. Privacy, security and prevention of foot traffic from cutting across the front were some of the other issues addressed. In keeping with the conservative character of hte neighbourhood, the front garden features a square-cut Bluestone walkway, foundation plantings and steel fence. At the side, an arbour and gate introduce the more relaxed, family-oriented rear garden which features random set Bluestone, built-in barbecue area, vegetable and butterfly gardens, and children’s play space. Wit ha young family, our clients to not have much time for gardening although they want to learn more and teach the kids about the garden. With this in mind, we kept the planting beds structured with lower maintentace specimen shrubs and trees, while dotting perennials throughout for year-round interest.
