This small, south-facing rear garden of a recently renovated heritage house needed modification and upgrading for the arrival of a deluxe portable spa, a new focal point for our clients who spend a lot of time relaxing and entertaining outdoors. Large, overshadowing fir trees were spiral pruned to allow more light into the garden, existing retaining walls were removed and rebuilt in concrete, and the spa and specimen Parrotia persica tree were craned into place over the garage. Granite steps and Pennsylvania Bluestone walkways were constructed on two levels to allow for the spa to be at grade and appear to be built in. The existing deck was renovated, and planting for screening and year-round interest was designed and installed.
