One of our most challenging projects to date has been a 2,800 square foot rooftop garden for a 26th floor penthouse residence in the False Creek Lands. Weight, wind, sun, location of window washing and building HVAC equipment – all were constraints to be considered in the design. We divided the large space into several smaller outdoor rooms including a culinary garden, a patio oriented toward the morning sun, an area for sunset dining and entertaining, a quiet area for relaxation, and a space for the homeowners’ teenage children and their friends to gather. After extensive engineering, design and revisions, installation is now in progress. Planting in lightweight pots and custom planters provides culinary delights and visual interest while screening venting ducts and orienting spectacular views toward the waterfront and beyond.
